The thermal fuse on my Whirlpool Duet dryer keeps blowing every 3-6 months. I have changed the Thermistor and Heat Coil, installed a Tjerlund blower, and it is all hard piped. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Thank You for your time.
ANSWER Hello Skeeter,
The thermal fuse is just that....Thermal. This means that the only thing that will open it is high temperature. Anytime the thermal fuse blows, the first thing to go to is the exhaust duct. If it is restricted, heat will be held in the units' cabinet and the thermal fuse will blow. The duct has to have a 4 inch inner diameter and each 90° turn counts as 6 feet of straight ducting. The exhaust should not exceed the equivalent of 25 feet. This basically means that after adding the straight sections lengths together, you should add 6 feet for each 90° angle. If the duct is too long or just stops under the house without going out to atmosphere, the duct will not allow the unit to operate properly.
