My 7 yr old Whirlpool gas dryer only stays hot for 15 min after first starting, then continues to tumble but with no heat. If I turn it off & wait 30-45 min, then start again, it will heat again for 15 min- then no heat, etc. There is no blockage of lint. Wondering if husband can attempt to repair if we know where to start? Thanks for any suggestions!
ANSWER KES, Based on your post description and the age of the dryer, you most likely have a case of "weak" gas valve coils 279834.After several minutes of operation, the internal components heat p and "separate" and the gas valve no longer produces heat. Once the dryer cools down, the coils operate, until they "separate" again. The part replacement is a simple repair, turn off the power and gas to the dryer, remove the front panell, unplug the wire harness to the coils, remove the two screws that secure the mount bracket to the valve boddy, lift the bracket off, remove and replace the coils one at a time. reversed the procedure, and test run the dryer.
