My ice maker continues to make ice however our water dispenser no longer works. Do I need to replace the water valve to make the water dispenser work or should I be looking elsewhere for a blockage? Thanks, M
ANSWER Hello Mario,
The water valve is a good place to start but you should probably dis-connect the water line at the valve and see if the water dispense button will cause the valve to open. If it does, your water tank could be frozen. This can be corrected by removing the drawers in the bottom of the fresh food compartment and blowing a hair dryer at the water tank for 10 to 15 minutes. If this turns out to be the issue, you should set the freezer setting to one number warmer and set the fresh food compartment one setting COLDER. I know this sounds backwards, but think of it like this: Cold air is heavier than warm air. That means that the cold air will settle to the bottom of the unit while the fans are not running. The setting of the fresh food compartment colder will turn the fans on more often which will keep the air stirred up. This will prevent the water tank and items in the drawers from freezing.
