My 11 year old Whirlpool dishwasher started working really weird tonight. It would go through the Normal cycle OK, but then automatically turn itself back on to the beginning of a "Power Wash" cycle. It actually did this 2 or 3 times before we realized what was happening. Then I pushed the Cancel/Drain and I watched it drain, stop, but then go right back to the Power Wash cycle.
I then tried resetting the circuit breaker and also tried pressing the "Air Dry" and holding for 5 seconds to first turn off the Control Panel then turn it back on. This seems to have worked for now, everything is currently off, but I don't trust it and left the door open.
We've never had problems like this before, and I'm wondering if there is some minor easy fix -- both the control panel and control board sound too expensive for an 11 year old machine. For instance the ordering page for the control board mentioned checking the thermal fuse first. Where would I find that I my dishwasher and how do I test it and could it produce the problems I'm having?
Thanks for your help.
ANSWER Hello Carol,
Disconnect power to unit for 30 minutes to allow to reset. Turn back on and see if it continues to do the same thing. If it does then you have a stuck key on dishwasher and will need to replace the keypad 8051710.
