The power for the dryer works fine, and the displays work, but the dryer will not start. It is only 6 years old, hardly used. Last time used 2 weeks ago was great. We have had terrible electric storms lately. I wonder if there was a power surge. Could it need a new control board?

ANSWER Hello Michael,
The first thing you should do is turn the breaker off. Now turn it back on and try the dryer. If one side of the 240V breaker trips, it will not start. If the other side trips, it will start but not heat. If you do no good doing this, open the door and hold in the door switch. Press the start button and turn the tub by hand. If it starts, the motor 279787 will require replacement. If it doesn't, test the door switch W10318609. If the door switch tests good, you will need to pull the wiring diagram and troubleshoot to see if voltage is getting to the control. If it is, you need to see if voltage is leaving the control. If it isn't, the control W10111606 will then require replacement.
There is also the possibility that the installer that installed the dryer cord didn't tighten the nuts sufficiently and the wire has burned off. You should also check the prongs on the cord for burned spots which indicate the receptacle is worn out and requires replacement.
