When the front right burner is turned on, the element heats only partially and the unit makes a distinct clicking noise. Do I need a new element or could the problem be with another component. Also, I'm replacing the glass cooktop. Are there other components I should replace while I have it apart for the glass replacement?
ANSWER Hello Glen,
You should check to make sure that the surface element is getting proper voltage. Also look for physical damage to the element. If there is physical damage then you would want to replace element. Proper voltage to the element should be 240 vac. You can check to make sure that the infinite switch is good. Using multi-meter you can test the switch by ohming the switch. With switch OFF go between L1a to 2 you should read open circuit. Switch ON L1z to 2 should read closed circuit 0 Ohms. Switch OFF L1a to 1 Open circuit. Switch on L1a to 1 Closed circuit. You should also have 120 vac L1 to ground and L2 ground. If you do not have this then you have loss of power to one side of system. You should also have the same reading from ground to L1 and ground to L2. If you do not have then you have bad switch W10307362. If these check ok then you would want to replace element8523696.
