I have a Whirlpool GERC4110SQ. On the front-left burner, only the outer element heats up when I put the dial to dual. When I put the dial to single the inner element does not light up. It seems to me the element (mfg p/n 4453909) is damaged but I read some of the other posts and it seems the issue could also be the "Switch-Infinite Control" - I saw two mfg p/n referenced (9758060 & 9761048) but I don't know which one it would be. Thanks for you help.
ANSWER Hello Gavin,
One way that you can try to determine which part is faulty is to take a flashlight and look to see if you can notice any burn marks on the middle of element. If there is a burn mark then you will have to replace element. You can test the switch on the unit by checking for voltage into and out of the switch. With switch turned onto small burner you should have 240vac from P2 to S2 this is input and should have 240 from P1 to 4 or 4a. If you do not have power at either one of these places then you need to replace the switch 9758060. If you do have power to these then you need to replace the element 4453909. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
