My maytag dishwasher has been sitting empty for a year before installing it. It seems to work fine but is leaking around the pump I assume that the gasdket has dryed out and needs replacement does that sound reasonalbe? and if so it is difficutlt to replace do I go at it from under the appliance, through the top where the water comes out to wash or do I tip it over and start from the bottom and is this a nasty job to do? It is a used machine
ANSWER Sara, It may be as simple as tightening the pump assembly clamping ring Y912686 on the bottom of the tub. You do need to be careful of the sharp edges, and points on the components attached to the bottom of the frame and tub. and make sure you remove power to the dishwasher before you start anything. But, you don't really have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet.
