I have noticed an oily residue around my washer for several months and now realize I have a transmission leak. I am assuming this is from the lower seal going bad. If I purchase and replace the lower seal can I add oil to the transmission on my washer? I am reading that some transmissions cannot have the oil replaced. My washer is 16 years old, but has otherwise been reliable and if I can fix it I would like to try. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide
ANSWER Hello Lynn,
Yes you can add oil to transmission. The oil useage is between 13 and 15 oz. The lower seal would be the most likely cause but you may also look at the lower transmission shaft to ensure that it is in good shape as well.
