A while back, the compressor on this unit ran all the time. I replaced the freezer thermistor and all was well until recently. Now I hear a fan running all the time. The temps in both freezer and fresh food sections seem fine, and when I run the diagnostic tests everything tests OK except that the defrost test shows the defrost thermostat always shorted (closed), and I am not sure if this is normal. The temps seem fine and I see no ice build-up anywhere, but I hear a constant fan running. I think it might be the evaporator fan, and don't know if that is a problem or not.
ANSWER Hello Charles,
The defrost thermostat will show closed as long as the temp is getting below 12 degrees it will show closed. If the temperature gets above 42 degrees the thermostat will open at 42 degrees. It is not uncommon for evaporator fan motor to run for long periods of time.
