I have an Amana electric dryer Model LE3402L, Serial 9108010719, Mfg. P1118305WL that is not drying. My repair man replaced two wires that were burned out. The dryer heated up very hot for one small load but I thought it ran hotter than normal. When I went to dry another load, it didn't heat up at all. I'm not sure what part(s) I need. Can you help me with suggestions? Thank you.
ANSWER Hi Anne. Remove power. Please check and clean the entire vent system including the vent hood/ cap outside. What causes the issues is that the vent cap hinges will clog and allow the vent to stay open. This in turn allows outside air /rain/ snow/ moisture to back up and create a restriction. The vent will sag(plastic) and the water will collect(restriction). This stops air flow from the drum trying to get rid of the hot/ moist air in drying your clothes. The lint collects and backs up. It overheats the heater and all internal parts in the dryer. Heater safety thermostats and cycling thermostats overheat and fail eventually altogether. The heater is part # 61927. The cycling thermostat is part # R9900489. The cycling thermostat is part # Y61372. This type of cycling thermostat uses a heater part # is 61623. This is why it ran hotter than normal (overheated)and then failed. Be absolutely sure to clean spotless the inside of the dryer parts clogged with lint. Replace the vent with Flexible metal vent system. Thank you.
