Ice maker has stopped making ice. Water dispenser works on the front door of the refrigerator works normally. There is a block of ice frozen solidly into the front of the ice making area and sticking up well above the level of the horizontal fork tines (it feels like a few ice cubes got stuck pointing up vertically and then frozen into water below. I also have a fair amount of what appears to be white plastic particles in the ice chamber. If ice got stuck in the tray, would the gear that drives the ejection fork strip?
Should I try thawing the frozen block with a hair dryer? Any other suggestions?

ANSWER Barry, You may want to check and reset the freezer temperature a few degrees warmer (3 to 5 dgrs.F.) You may be "flash" freezing the cubes and they could bunch up and create an issue. As for"white particles" in the ice bin, That shouldn't happen, all the gears are contained in the ice maker control module, on the front of the icemaker. You'll need to remove the assembly and check for alignments and damaged parts. We'll send you some basic access and removel information.
