Per info given yesterday by one of your operators, I posted my question in the "blog" section. Since no reply as of yet, called again today and was told to look up suspect part in question and ask here. This approximately 17-year-old Maytag dryer (never before an issue)developed a very loud, high-pitched squeel that got progressively worse over time. Purchased a new belt from you folks and believe I installed correctly. Only item that looked suspicious was the idler pulley bracket. It appeared excessively loose. After new belt was installed the noise did subside a bit at first, but came back like before. Suspecting the belt not an issue, ordered from your company all new rollers for the drum & belt pulley. When installing, found my new belt had shred the outer groove and lots of belt "dust" around the motor/idler pulleys. I see from previous responses, from Alan, that this idler bracket is suppose to have play sideways. I checked and rechecked the belt routing, and feel I had it correctly installed. Ordered a new belt yesterday 2nd day air as wife needs dryer working again, soon. Any light you can shed on my issue would be appreciated. Open for suggestions.

ANSWER Hello Bill. Check the shaft that the idler pulley goes onto. If it is worn, this can cause alot of play in the pulley and you will need to replace the idler arm 6-3033630.
