Hi, I have a Maytag side by side, 10yrs old, and the freezer side is working good but the refrigerator side is warm. I raised the temperature but there was no change. Is this some kind of relay problem? Hope you can help. Thanks!
ANSWER Hello Mike,
You need to check the rear wall of the freezer for a frost build-up. This sounds like you have a defrost issue and the frost is blocking the air circulation. The most common cause of a defrost failure in this model is the adaptive defrost control 61005988. Replacing it is only half the job though because, if there is a frost issue, correcting the problem will not clear the frost that has accumulated. This frost accumulation will have to be melted out by removing the rear freezer wall and melting the frost and ice away with a hair dryer. There is also a possibility that the defrost thermostat is the issue, but when you open the freezer wall and the thermostat is cold, it should read zero resistance, (continuity). If it is open when it's cold. it is the cause of the failure. As I said though, the adaptive defrost control is normally the failure on this design.
