I just took apart my machine to change the lid switch out and there's something that concerns me; the neutral (white) wiring part of the receptacle is fried. (I knew something went wrong the other day when i smelt that particular smell right before the machine stopped working) so my question is what would cause this? Is this just a normal manner in which these switches burn out or could this be an implication of something else, such as issue with the motor? Thanks, Tera.

ANSWER Hello Tera. That is usually a sign of a direct short or a power surge to the unit. You need to look for a hot wire touching ground.
