I remove the old Motor & pump belt on my Maytag washer because it was loose making a sqeecking sound on a wash cycle and measured it to be 40 1/2 long.
If this belt is 40 1/2 long why is it loosed?.
ANSWER George, The belt tension is maintained by the motor carriage , rollers and springs, located in the left hand front corner on the base. You do need to make sure the carriage and rollers are clean and well lubricated so they move in both directions freely and both springs are present 205000. To properly adjust the new belts, install them both, slightly loosen the three pump mount screws, from underneath hold the motor back in position, and "pinch" the pump belt together in the center, then tighten the pump mounting screws. Thanks and Good Luck
