The heating element in my ice maker has detached from the bottom of the mold and has been melting my ice catcher tray.
I know I need to replace the mold (Whirlpool AP4365074), since it and the heating element are a single unit, but I'm worried about a root cause - possibly faulty thermostat causing the element to overheat and detach?
Do you know what the temperature cutoff is on the cycling thermostat (Whirlpool AP3135377) so that I can determine if it's shutting off correctly?
Can you suggest another reason why the heating element might have detached from the ice mold that I could track down?
ANSWER Hello Phil. It could be a bad sensor. You may be best to replace the assembly 4317943 and not just the mold of the unit.
