I recently took the agitator and basket out to clean out a lot of old soap scum and mineral deposits which seemed to always show up on my clothes. After reassembling with a new gasket, I notice a burning smell and the motor seems to heat up, but it will wash a load of laundry (both agitate and spin). I wonder if I did something that might be producing too much resistance to the motor and causing it to heat up. When I take the belt off and run the spin cycle, the motor doesn't heat up. Also, can you tell me where the brake is- you refer to it in other responses. Thank-you, Jeff
ANSWER Hello Jeff,
You will want to check your thrust bearing which is the large pulley in the center to make sure that it is lifting the brake properly. If it is not lifting properly it will cause drag on the motor. Thrust bearing will actually meet up with the brake disc.
