Hello! I'm trying to replace the tub stem and seal but the upper nut securing the washer-cla won't budge. It has actually losened the stem, and therefore they turn together. I realize that in order to remove the inner tub I'd have to separate it from the outer tub. Even if I was able to remove the nut and stem as an assembly I'd still need to remove the nuts and bolts securing the braces. I don't want to apply any form of heat to the nut because the transmission shaft is plastic, and that would probably means spending more. Is there any other way I can go about doing this job other than having to call a repairman, or having to take it in for service? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You will want to block the transmission at the bottom of the unit. Take a 2 x 4 and put across the 2 braces so that when the transmission meets it the transmission will not turn.
