I have top load Kenmore washer that makes a loud whining noise only when it agitates. Could you tell what might be making this noise?
ANSWER D Crow, There are several possibilities, first check the drain pump 3363394, make sure the bearing is not seizing up or stiff, check and make sure theres nothing small in the pump housing or stuck in the impeller, when it turns in the agitate direction. Then check the drive coupler 285753A bent legs or damage. The next check is the brake shoes 285438 or drive tube 285792 if the brake shoes are partially engaged, the tub could slowly rotate during the wash cycle, causing the noise. Here's a little information that should give you a better idea of what to look for and how [ http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/3265-replacing-direct-drive-washer-brake-shoes.html].
