I was able to determine that I have a bad clutch and I have ordered a new clutch band and lining kit, but why was the clutch covered in grease/oil? I used brake cleaner to remove all of the oil from the clutch. I can only guess that the oil is from the transmission and maybe it leaked into the clutch when it was tipped over to be worked on, then when it was returned upright the oil was thrown out of the clutch area and covered other parts and underneath the washer? Is there a way to check if there is enough oil in the transmission, or should I be looking at something else? Thank you for any assistance you can offer!
ANSWER Hello Todd. Yes, and the oil in the transmission should be fine. It did not leak out enough to have to be replaced. There is no way of checking the level.
