I have a Magic Chef smooth top electric range. Yesterday we ran it thru a cleaning cycle. When It was almost finished it started flashing the bake indicator. After it cooled down and we were able to unlock the door, we cleaned up the ash. a few hours later when going to prepare dinner, I tried to preheat the oven and it won't heat up, it just flashes the bake light when you try and set the temperature. It allowed us to try and set the temperature a couple of times, but each time it did it scrolled immediately up to 350 and beeped like it was done pre heating, except that it was ice cold. I was poking around on the internet and I think the problem may be with the bake element . I replaced the lower bake element once in July of 2010. I don't have the model number here right now, but the bake element is #74010750 if that helps. I also turned of the breaker for a few minutes to try and reset the circuit board. Please let me know what I can do to diagnose it.
To check to see if the issue is with the bake element or the control board you will want to access the control board. Turn the oven on bake and check from L2 to bake and if there is 240 vac then the control board is the issue. If there is only 120 vac or nothing at all then the bake element is most likely the cause.
