Hi; I have a Roper Gas Stove/Range, I've noticed someone else had a very similar question to mine. I've had this now for 9 years and has never had an issue till now. The problem is when I turn on the oven (to say 350 degrees) and wait, the burner does not light. I have waited 2-3 minutes and nothing. The oven ignitor does glow (but only a bright orange or near red) it does not get as you stated in this other persons question 'white hot'. I'm like this other person, when I tap gently with a small hammer or screw driver on the gas safty valve it does light, but when it reaches the temperature setting and it goes out, it will not light again. I do not have a whoile lot of money, so I'm hoping to get this right the first time! So do you think it is the ignitor?, or safty gas valve? (Model # FGP305KW2)

Robin for Model Number FGP305KW2

ANSWER Hello Robin. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
