My refrigerator appears to create a small flame around the electronics leading into the compressor when the compressor turns on. Smoke and the smell of burning plastic is emitted. However the compressor seems to turn on. What is the best way to know which part(s) need to be replaced?

ANSWER Hello Peter,
The overload relay is what you would want to replace on the refrigerator. The relay should not omit an electrical odor and will eventually fail.
