In reference to the above questions I am aware that you are a parts only service. My question is if the control panel was working why would it have to be replaced. The explaination from the appliance repair tech is that the latch snapped at the control panel but we clearly heard the spring pop. Therefore, my question is could this be a legitimate repair issue or not.

ANSWER Hello Amy. It could break the latch on the panel. If it is broke, you will need to replace the control panel 8205816. Hope this helps.
