After numerous Maytag questions on Google, I learned how to change my snubber ring. I also found accessibility easier by removing the belt pulley, C-clio & washer. I removed the cover plate using (2) 1.5" self tapping screws, worked great. Inside cover plate was coated with grease and the thrust bearing appeared loose and greasy. Is this normal or do I need a thrust bearing too (while it's apart)?
The thrust bearing does not necessarily have to be replaced although it would not hurt anything. If the unit is spinning properly and agitating properly then it would not be necessary to replace the thrust bearing.
