What is the fuction for the T-Stat s-unit part?

ANSWER Hi Joyce. It is a safety device so if there is an overheat situation, this will open first. Part # 3188286. It can be ohmed out with an ohmmeter to see if it is good (closed circuit - 0 ohms). If open (infinity ohms) you can temporarily jump these wires with elect tape to see if the burners will work again. Thank You.
