Hi. We can turn the timer dial to select a setting, but if you used timed settings, the dryer doesn't turn on via the start button. It will turn on when you turn the timer dial slightly backward. Of course when you let the dial go, the dryer turns off. When you use sensing, it will run but may advance too quickly, leaving the clothes damp when it shuts off.
