Machine stops part way through cycle then emits an electrical odor as if something is burning. If allowed to sit for 5 or 10 mins you can then restart by pushing in the timer will now go through perhaps another part of cycle then repeats the process. Robert M for Model Number 110.20922990 kenmore washer ANSWER Robert, You will want to check the pump to make sure that it is not clogged which would cause it to not turn and cause the motor to overheat. thanks for your prompt reply I have checked the pump and it's not plugged at all the smell comes from the timer also some of the wires from the timer are hot. any other ideas T.I.A.

ANSWER Robert, If the timer has the electrical odor then you would want to replace the timer as the contacts in the timer would be sticking causing the burning odor.

ANSWER Hello Robert. It sounds like the motor is overheating and shutting down the unit. If this is the case, and nothing is in a bind, you will need to replace the motor on the unit.
