Have gotten mixed instructions on how to test a defrost timer--could you send instructions on the proper way to test it? Put in the new one and it is working as of now but would like to test the old one just for the experience. Frig only got down to 45deg so far but assume it is taking a break--compressor too hot perhaps? Anyway thanks for your help. OLD Al

ANSWER Hello Al. During the run cycle, the timer should read closed across the number 4 and the number 1. Then when you advance to the defrost cycle, the timer closes across 1 and 2 and 4 becomes open. 3 is the neutral for the timer. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
