I have a problem with my maytag washer, its about 9 years old, it will spindry fill up with water, like its suppose too, but, when it goes to the wash cycle, it sounds like all the gears are stripped out.

Stan for Model Number #pavt234Aww

ANSWER Hello Stan, You may want to check the pump 35-6468 to make sure that there is nothing stuck in the pump causing noise. Make sure that pump spins freely and does not appear to be binding in either direction. Also check the thrust bearing 12002213 which would be the big pulley on the bottom for damage or wear. Check to make sure that one direction it lifts the brake 35-6918 35-6714 and the other direction it is relaxed. If it is a screeching type of noise then you would want to check to make sure that the brake is not slipping.
