How do I replace the drain tube in this side by side Maytag fridge? What parts do I have to remove to access it? Do I get to it from inside the refridgerator or outside?
ANSWER Hello Ed,
You will have to pull the unit out and remove the drain line that attaches to it from underneath. You will then have to go inside the freezer compartment and on some models you have to remove the rear wall of the freezer to access the drain. Be aware, there was a service bulletin on these units concerning the freezing of the drain. If the opening around the part you were looking at is squared off, leaving a "landing" around the part, it need to be made funnel shaped using silicon. This prevents any water from standing in this area which was causing the drain to freeze up. If the opening is made funnel shaped, any war entering the area has no choice but to be pulled down the drain by gravity, and it cannot remain and freeze. After you have completed the part replacement, don't forget to return to the rear of the unit and reattach the drain line to the tube.
