Hey there, I own a Maytag stove top and was wondering if you could assist me in diagnosing it. Lately it's been developing a flame under the sealed surface burner. At first I thought it was because the gasket underneath had deteriorated. However when I removed the burner for cleaning and inspection, I could smell a small amount of natural gas seeping from the orifice tube beneath the burner. All of the orifice tube assemblies seem to have this seepage. My question is this: Are the orifice tube assemblies worn out and seeping or is gas escaping past the burner valves further upstream? Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!
ANSWER Hello E J,
You would want to do a leak test on the orifices. Using a bubble solution designed for leak detection, you will put the solution on the orifice. Whichever orifice shows gas coming through you will need to replace that burner valve 74001384.
