How does the valve work? Whirlpool part number AP4094711 for Maytag wall oven model CWG3100AAB. My igniter glows red, but won't light the oven. If I tap firmly on the valve. Then it will light. Is the valve the problem? The oven sat in storage for two years.

ANSWER Hello Mark. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve 74005550. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
