I have to tap on safety valve to get the oven to ignite. Then the temp spikes. If I set it to 350 it will show 500 on an inside thermometer. Next the temp will drop under 350 and then I will have to tap on the valve again.

ANSWER Hello Jared. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve 74006427. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter 74007498 will need to be replaced. Also, test the oven sensor 12001655. It should read around 1650 ohms at 350° and 1100 ohms at room temperature. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
