My Whirlpool top load washing machine goes thru the wash cycle ok but when the rinse cycle starts, the pump starts pumping the water out but the machine doesn't spin. If I push in the knob on the timer to turn off the machine and then pull the knob back out,the washer will spin normally. I have replaced the coupling and clutch and jumpered out the lid switch. Any ideas?

ANSWER Jay, The drive block would make a noise at the start or end of the spin cycle, were it the issue. With a new clutch and coupling properly installed, the next check would be at the brake shoe rollers, pads, and springs 285438 or possibly an issue in the neutral drain system 388253 in the gearcase.
