What is the function of the wax motor?
ANSWER Hello Gary,
The wax motor provides a safety measure to the door lock to prevent the door from opening before the tub has completely stopped it's rotation. Basically a wax motor is paraffin wax in a confined space that, when voltage is passed through it, heats the wax, causing it to expand, pushing the plunger out which activates a linkage which locks the door and tells the control the door is locked by activating the door lock switch. This also explains why the door takes about 3 minutes to unlock because that's the time it takes for the wax to cool and contract which unlocks the door as it pulls the linkage back the other way.
