When my washer spins, it sounds like old brakes on a car, scraps metal to metal. Drains ok and cycles are good. Where or what do I look at first for repairs? I have a Whirlpool washer / 12 yrs old.

ANSWER Kendra, Your washer should be a "direct drive" WP washer. Once you remove the cabinet, you will want to check the drive coupling 285753A for cracked, bent, or broken tabs. If all's OK, you'll need to lower the transmission and check the Clutch assembly for damaged or worn out pads and springs 285785 and brake shoes and rollers 285438 that may be "dragging" .
