EARLIER when I sent an email to you people to find out what part number I need for my Maytag dryer I got response telling me what I needed. I found out that I needed part AP4043083 for my dryer MDE7400AYW Serial #19701679CL and I also would need a wire harness part#AP4043085. I would like to know how a new wiring harness would work. Would I possibly need a service person to do the work. Thank You.
ANSWER Hello Jack,
The harness isn't hard to replace if you do it one wire at a time. If you yank all of the wires off, it would take an hour for an experienced technician to get the wiring back correctly. The correct procedure is to pull one connector off and find that connector on the new harness and connect it where you pulled the old one off. Go to the next connector and do the same. Continue with this procedure until all wires are connected on the new harness. Sometimes you may find that the old harness is in the way but as long as you have checked all of the connectors on the new harness so you know it is the correct harness, the old harness can be cut out of the way. This is dangerous though because I have been told that the new harness got cut accidentally! For this reason, you must be absolutely sure before breaking out the diagonal cutters. If you are unsure, it may be best to have this done for you. There is normally some dis-assembly involved also. It is normally cheaper to carry an appliance to a shop than to have a tech come to it.
