The inner door glass shattered on my upper oven unit. Do I just need to order the inner door glass or do I need additional parts such as the inner glass seal part? Also, can I do this repair myself or do I need a repairman?
Answer Steve, the inner most door glass listed for Bosch HBL8650UC models is part number 00770023. You should not need any other parts for the repair unless broken on your unit now. To change the glass in an oven door, you will need to determine how to remove the door on the model number you are working on. If you open the door to the first stopping point, some oven doors will lift off the unit in this position. On other models, you will see clips on the back of the hinge toward the opening where the hinge enters the range. If yours is like this, you will open the door all the way open, then pull the clips down until they stop and lock in place. Then close the door to the stopping point and lift the door off the range. If your door does not lift off, and it does not have the clips, then you will open the door all the way open. You will see a hole in the hinge at the bottom of the door. You will insert a pin or nail into that hole and close the door to the stopping point. Then you can lift the door off the unit. Once the door is removed, you will lay it on a soft surface and disassemble the door. Pay attention and make notes if needed for reassembly of the oven door. Once you have replaced the door glass, you will reinstall the oven door back onto the range in reverse order of the way you removed it.
The upper door is not tight, I think it may be the hinge. Also, there seems to be a seal break in the glass window. It looks like food has dripped on the glass but can't clean it off as it appears to be on the inside of the double window. Can you help or should I call an appliance repair person?
Answer Hello Linda,
The hinges are part number 00445076. The glass will most likely have to be replaced because when the unit is brought up to temperature, the spill will "cook onto the glass". You will most likely have to open the door assembly to see which glass is needed since there are four panes of glass inside the door. Also, the door has not got a "seal break" because if the door glass were sealed, when the unit heated up, pressure would form between the glass and break it from the pressure that would build up.
