My Repair & Advice
I took off the control panel. This was a bit complicated, because the outer door panel has to be removed first. It turned out that the control panel assembly housing, a plastic piece, was cracked in two places. This caused the button to fall out when the control panel, which also serves as the door handle, is pulled to open the door. I purchased a new control panel, but found after it was delivered, that the plastic insert door handle could not be removed from the old control panel. So I had to order that part separately. Once I received the plastic insert door panel, I easily replaced the control panel assembly. Aside from realizing that this Bosch design is inherently defective and seemingly intentionally difficult to repair, I realized that I should order the entire assembly at once, rather than try to salvage plastic parts from the old one. That would have saved me shipping fees.
