Gas Oven sputters after igniting, It never reaches proper temperature. The ignitor stays orange. So what should the ohm meter read?

Answer Hi. If the oven gas sputters during operation then the diaprahm in the safety valve part # 415497 is defective. Remove power. Disconnect one wire off the safety valve terminals. Reading across the terminals should read 1-ohm resistance. And check each terminal to the valve metal body for shorts. The oven wheel in operation will read 3.0-3.3 vac across the terminals of a good operating device. If you have this voltage there then the igniter part # 415504 needs replaced. Thank You.
Hi, This is Dennis again. I have already replaced the gas valve (duel oven safety valve 415497) about 8 months ago and the oven still does not get up to temp. You suggested replacing the pressure regulator. Are you talking about the main gas line pressure regulator or is there another one. If the main pressure regulator is bad wouldn't it affect the burners also? Can I test the pressure regulator? I will probably replace the igniter antway. Last time I turned the oven on it didn't light and the kitchen filled up with gas. Not a good thing. We were very lucky. I'm a full time paid professional Captain with the Kearny, NJ fire department and it wouldn't have looked good if my house blew up! I tried to light the oven again and the igniter was weak and I smelt gas but the gas didn't ignite so I turned the oven off. I think the igniter is bad and not getting hot enough to ignite the gas but still sending a signal to the gas valve to open. Could this be possible? Thanks again for your help, Dennis If you can call me it would be helpful.

Answer Dennis, To answer both your questions, Yes, a weak oven igniter 415504 could cause your issue. In fact most of the temperature issues in a gas range are due to a weak igniter. If you can get access to a clamp on ammeter, You could put the clsmp around one of the igniter wires, turn the oven on and set a temperatue. In approximately 60 seconds, You should see a 3.2 to 3.6 amp draw on the system, if the igniter is working properly. Any amp draw lower or intermittent, would create the symptoms you're describing. Thanks
