Answer Hello Don, The thermostat 163297 should read Zero resistance. Reading a resistance through a thermostat is the indication of a bad thermostat and yes, it should be replaced. As a note, 24 ohms of resistance is 24 ohms of continuity. No continuity shows up just like not touching the meter leads to anything.

I have checked thermostat #163297 and it shows no continuity. Your previous advice said it should read 21 ohms at room temperature. I am not getting any ohm reading on this thermostat. Is it bad? The dryer is heating but leaves clothes damp? Thanks!

Answer Hi. The thermostat 163297 should read around 21 ohms at room temperature. Yes it needs to be changed. Clean the entire vent system and repair any kinks. Clean the outside vent cap assy. so it opens and closes well. Thank You.

I ordered this part because the old one is open (at room temperature), thinking it should normally be closed (there should be continuity). The new one is also open (ohm going towards infinity). What should it be? The other thermostat with the red button is closed (there is continuity). Is that correct? Thank you. Ron
