Appliance: Model KENMORE SERIES 80 CLOTHES DRYER
My Repair & Advice
I needed to replace the thermal cut-off in the dryer. I ordered the kit from Appliance Parts Pros.com, the kit came with a thermal fuse, a thermal switch, a wire and required connectors, instructions on how to complete the repair.
I tried to short cut the process and only replaced the thermal fuse. That was a mistake because the original fuse had failed because the thermal switch was not switching off when the dryer was operated. As the dryer runs, the heating element is turned on to provide the drying heat. The element needs to be regulated by the thermal switch. The switch will turn off the element as the dryer is running to prevent possible fire hazards. If the element does not shut off the fuse will get too hot and open up to prevent the possible fire hazard.
I ordered a second kit. Replaced both the fuse and switch and the job was complete.
