Appliance: Whirlpool Electric Dryer GEW9250PW0
My Repair & Advice
Figured it was the heating element, but had never been inside this dryer before. Took off the back panel and top, which was easy, but later determined the back was the only panel that could stay in place. Oops.
Could see the heating element near the bottom but drum was in the way to remove it, so did some more googling till I found that the front panels (bottom, door, top electronics) had to come off, the drum had to come out and THEN I could remove the heater box with the element in it.
Did a bunch of lint clean up in dryer and inside the vent. Needed it bad. Then replaced the heating element, the gasket on the blower vent (part of door assembly, front and rear halves split apart and a cheap foam gasket must be replaced upon re installation), and buttoned it up.
Looking back on it, I could have simply removed the bottom front panel and a few screws on the heater box, allowing the element to slide out towards the front. Would have taken 30 minutes total instead of three hours, but I learnxed all about this dryer now, if it ever needs another part. They are pretty simple machines.
