Intermittent Secondary Gas Valve Coil on Amana Dryer

Dan R. • Stewartstown, PA • April 01, 2014
Appliance: Model AMANA My Repair & Advice

In all my years as a tech, I have never seen an intermittent coil. That is why I changed out the thermal sensor first. When that did not fix the problem and the flame went out within 5 min, I rechecked the resistance in the secondary coil and found it was open. When it cooled, it worked again for a couple of minutes. Replacing the coil was one screw and two wire lugs. Simple as can be. Trouble shooting took a while (and two replacement parts) as this was intermittent and I had fun figuring out the schematic. Very clever circuit! Now that I know how the dryer is supposed to work, it is a piece of cake.
