Refrigerator leaked under the left front grill.

Appliance: Whirlpool Refrigerator GD5RHAXTS01 My Repair & Advice

Every once in a while we'd get a small leak just under the left side (freezer door). I moved the fridge out and saw the water stain towards the front of the unit. Carefully removing the grate (see the video on how to do this so you don't snap the plastic brackets. They are part of the grate and there is one on the left and one on the right, centered from top to bottom.) Anyway the problem was visible. There is a water tube that runs into the door and presumedly up to the water dispenser. It is connected to another tube that goes under the fridge, most likely to the filter via the water connector union fitting. Anyway, the fitting was calcified and dripped a little when I jiggled it. Not good right? I shut off the water to the fridge. Then I pulled the two tubes off the old fitting. That was easy and there was some leaking but nothing a towel could not handle. Using a box cutter and wood piece as a cutting board, I cut off a small amount of the calcifed tube, making sure to get a clean straight cut. Not too much or the tube would get too short and have to be replaced. The other connection seemed good so I just wiped it clean. Insert each tube into the proper side of the connector until they are seated all the way. The tubes are different sizes as are the holes of the connector. That's it. Because they insert so easily you might not think the tubes are sealed but they are. Turn back on the water and use the dispenser and check for leaks. Snap the grill back on. Note: The only tool required is the box cutter/knife but the webpage made me choose a tool for posting.
