Our refrigerator is 7-8 years old. In the first year or so we had a problem with the ice maker delivering only crushed ice. A service tech came to the house and said that the only problem was from on the mechanism causing it to stick and that was a problem with the model. We should use a hair drying to defrost that area and problem would be solved. So we've done that periodically when it stick. The problem seems to occur more often and sometimes the auger motor is so frosted in "grinds" when it delivers ice and we use the hair dryer. Now the plastic collar at the front of the ice bucket is rubbing against the metal plate and shaving plastic into the delivered ice. It seems that a new ice bucket assembly is necessary and maybe a new auger motor. But what about the frost? Thanks

I have a Frigidaire flsc23f6ds1 with ice maker gcd-23. I cannot get my ice maker to make ice or to get the auger to turn when I press the arm on the door to dispense ice (it doesn't make any noise). I have made sure that the water line is not frozen and was wondering if the motor auger controls both of these features and this is my culprit.

The ice maker doesn't dispense. It makes ice just fine. When you hit the arm, the yoke engages and opens the flap in the door, but there is a low hum and the auger doesn't turn so the "screw arm" inside the ice bucket doesn't rotate and push ice forward. I suspect it's the auger motor. Is there a way I can test to be sure before ordering a replacement? Is there anything else I should check? Thx!
