Compressor not running. I found the controller bad. I did not replace the Capacitor. Could this be bad also? Everything else on the refrigerator works, only the compressor does not come on.
Answer Hello Marvin,
Unplug the unit and remove the cover to gain access to the compressor. Remove the cover and start relay and overload. Using your test meter on the RX1 scale of the resistance scale, test from one terminal to another. Write down the results. Test from the same terminal to the other terminal and write down these results. Now go to the other two terminals as opposed to the one you started with. Write down these results. Now if the windings are good, the two lowest readings should add to a total of the last reading. If this all reads correctly, shake the start device, (or relay), and if it rattles, it is bad. If you just replaced the relay, the compressor is why the new relay has failed again so soon. I hope this isn't the case, but if it is, the compressor will have to be changed by a freon certified technician by federal law.
