Control assembly is burned badly. Is the compressor the only possible problem or could it have been damaged by lighting? How can I check the compressor with an ohmeter?

Answer Hello Roy,
You can do a resistance check across the start to common, run to common and start to run pins on the compressor. The numbers you get from start to common and run to common should almost equal that of start to run. You can also go each pin to ground. Lighting can cause the overload to burn out and also it can go out by constant power surges.
I have a Frigidaire freezer F81C13M3W1 that clicks, starts running, runs a few seconds & then stops. How do I figure out if it is the capacitor, controller, temperature control or compressor?
thanks

Answer Hello Jim,
This is the start device 216649301. To verify, remove the start device from the side of the compressor and shake it. If it's good, it won't rattle. If it's bad, it will sound like a lot of little pieces are loose inside the device.
